The Provincial Nominee Program (“PNP”) allows candidates to move to Canada within a period of nine to fifteen months. The following is the general roadmap for candidates in this category:
1) qualified employers nominate/sponsor an employee candidate; and,
2) employee candidates submit the requisite paperwork to process the permanent residency application.
Employers must demonstrate that sufficient efforts to hire local Canadians have been made and that in spite of competitive terms and conditions of employment, vacancies have not been filled.
Employees must demonstrate that the position they are filling conforms to a National Occupation Classification skill level of O, A, B; or meets the terms of a program laid down by a province.
Employee candidates may receive temporary work permits, while the provincial and federal authorities process their permanent residency applications. However, work permits issued under the low skilled occupations of PNP programs are limited to 24 months duration, whereas, work permits issued for skilled workers can be extended for upto 7 years.
Therefore, careful analysis must be done on a case-to-case basis to determine the best route of entry for an individual or a family.
