Andrea Nair, a psychotherapist and parenting educator, provides a handy list to deal with a child who is throwing tantrums:
1) staying calm, while the children is having an emotional outburst;
2) Validating their emotions and being empathetic towards their emotions;
3) Establish boundaries and limits so the child does not become physically abusive during the tantrum;
4) Physical touch often calm children down. Hold or hug them when they are upset;
5) Avoid punishment as it may make their emotions run higher than they already are.
