“Phubbing”, a term used for phone-snubbing, is the act of checking or being on the phone while someone is trying to have a face-to-face conversation with you or is attempting to get your attention. Regular phubbing in romantic relationships is related to lower relationship satisfaction and increased mental illnesses. Research from Baylor University found that phubbing is damaging to relationships and is making people depressed. Although the parameters of courtesy will dictate that people give their undivided attention to the people around them, the excessive use and addiction of phones is causing people to overlook social norms to have a prime view of their phones.
