The recent Easson v Blase, 2015 ONSC 5170 case discusses the factors listed in the V.K. v. T.S. 2011 ONSC decision for determining whether parallel parenting shall be ordered. The factors that the courts continue to consider are:
1) If both parents played equally significant role in the child’s life;
2) If both parents’ have equal ability to make decisions that are in the child’s best interests;
3) The level of alienation caused by one parent against the other: higher alienation leads to an award of sole custody;
4) If both parents are equally able to place the needs of the child above their own; and,
5) Existence of abuse in the relation (which lead to sole custody).
