There is a residency requirement for persons applying to renew their Permanent Residence Card. They must have been physically present in Canada for a minimum of 730 days within the past five years. However, time spent outside of Canada may be counted towards the calculation of days spent in Canada if:
1) the Permanent Resident was accompanying a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident outside of Canada who was their spouse, common law partner, or parent;
2) the Permanent Resident was employed by a Canadian company or a client of the Canadian company; or,
3) the Permanent Resident has Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds explaning their absence from Canada.
The application of renewal needs to have proper documentation, failing which, the renewal application maybe rejected and the applicant may lose their legal status in Canada.
